Reverse worrying - anxiety and your imagination

A couple of weeks ago I was leading a training session about Resilience - our ability to bounce back from set backs and keep our energy up.
I was using a free report with the group, which you can also create for yourself at www.robertsoncooper.com/iresilience and the topic of imagination came up.
One of the participants mentioned that they didn't think their imagination was that good, but she did also report that her sense of worry about the world was quite high.
As a way of reframing this for her, I asked her what would happen if she tried worrying in reverse for 5 minutes per day - rather than thinking about all the negative "what if's", she could turn it to some positive "What if's"?

This really seemed to strike a chord with the group, and I have also been practicing this since that session. It's been an amazing experience and one that I will continue with.
I have found that it has helped me to be more positive, find out more about what is worrying me, and stop some of my habitual thought processes!
Just 5 minutes per day, which I've added as a reminder to my phone, has also helped me to calm down during this unusual festive period, and deal with the changes to our movements that have been imposed in the UK in a much calmer way.
Why don't you give it a try? For 5 minutes today, take something that has been worrying you, and think of all the positive "what if's" you can in that 5 minutes. What idea's does it give you about how you can overcome this worry?
Let me know in the comments below, how you find it!
